IEEE Fellow First Woman to Win Prestigious Turing Award in Computing  
26 February – Frances E. Allen, an IEEE Fellow and IBM Fellow Emerita, was presented with the Turing Award from The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) on 21 February. She was honored for her work which led to innovations “that fundamentally improved the performance of computer programs in solving problems and accelerated the use of high performance computing.” Allen is the first woman to receive the award in its 40-year history. ... more.
