Section News



Behnaz Ghoraani appointed as Women in Engineering Affinity (WIE) Group Chair.
photo image Behnaz Ghoraani is a PhD Candidate in Electrical Engineering program at Ryerson University under supervision of Dr. Sri Krishnan. Her area of specialization includes optimal signal feature representation and localization for pattern classification of biomedical and multimedia signals. She is also interested in watermarking and fingerprinting for multimedia security. Behnaz is awarded an Ontario Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology for her research in signal feature extraction. She received her B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering from Sharif University in 1998, followed by master’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2000.

Behnaz believes in the significance of women's roles in engineering and science. She was with IEEE Toronto Section Women in Engineering (WIE) as the secretary from August 2007. Since January 2008, she is the chair of IEEE Toronto Section WIE.

Ehsan Behboudi appointed as Industrial Applications Chapter Chair.
photo imageEhsan received his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University, Halifax Nova Scotia in 2003. He then joined Irving Tissue Corporation, manufacturers of Royale Tissue, in Toronto. In the duration of 2.5 years, Ehsan held various positions within the organization such as Maintenance engineer, Project engineer and Process engineer working with Electric drives and process automation. He then moved to Honeywell Aerospace as a System Engineer working on A380 airbus aircraft. He is currently a Project Engineer at Eaton Corp.

Ehsan joined IEEE in fall of 2004 as the IAS chapter secretary, he was appointed as the IAS chapter Vice Chair in 2006 and now the Chapter chair. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society Chapter. Ehsan is currently a part time Masters Student at Ryerson University under the supervision of Dr.Bin Wu in the Laboratory for Electrical Drive Applications and Research (LEDAR). Ehsan is a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario.

Volunteers



Volunteering a few hours a month is a very rewarding experience - we have a great group of about 45 volunteers who contribute to the smooth running of our Section - by distributing the workload over many Section members, the individual load is kept small.
