Daylight Savings Time Reminder - SPRING FORWARD, FALL BACK is
the old addage that reminds us to set our clocks forward one hour before
we go to bed on Saturday evening, April 3 so we are ready for daylight
savings the following morning. Don't forget to make the rounds
and also adjust all of your electronic equipment that does not remember
to automatically adjust - I have to check my watches, outside lighting
timers, old VCR, breadmaker, and so on. Then there is the
reminder from our Fire Departments to replace batteries on smoke and
Carbon Monoxide detectors (what! you don't remember where it is or if
you have one...) Here are a couple of links about daylight savings
time - the technical stuff from our Canadian National Research
Council and some general information and historical tidbits from
the CBC News web site.

communication, mobile networks and system performance analysis; and in
particular, QoS-aware radio resource management, joint study of wireless
physical/link layer characteristics and hybrid cellular/multihop network
architecture. He has published more than 20 papers and articles in
international conferences and journals in his research area. Prior to
his academic career, he was a Technical Consultant at Bell Mobility

Section Initiatives
Here is an update from last month on the two latest IEEE Toronto initiatives:
- Our new Affinity Group for Women in Engineering - was officially
formed on March 24, 2004 and the first meeting is described above - check out the new web page
for more information. Note, membership in this group is not restricted
to women only.
- I invite you to join and participate in our new On-line Community

Standards Hidden in Plain Sight
"IEEE Standards can be found behind technologies we use every day at home, at
work, and at play. They're responsible for the way your computer works, as
well as for your television set, wireless router, video games, and many other
electronic products. Most people don't even know they exist....."
This is the start of an interesting article written by Erica Vonderheid
in the March issue of IEEE's The Institute. If you did not see the print
version, here is a link to the on-line
version.
