IEEE Toronto Section

Email Policy Statement
The IEEE Toronto Section uses the Internet as its primary communications medium.   A description of our web site policies is provided on the following linked page.   The Section uses email to send an e-mail alert message IEEE Toronto E-News (normally) every month to all members of the Section (who provide their email addresses to IEEE) - except those who elect to opt out.   Each Chapter and Affinity Group also may elect to send email messages to the members of that Chapter or Affinity Group.   This policy statement defines the conduct of the Section in its use of email to communicate with its members and others.

Email Lists
This Section uses the IEEE e-Notice service which is described on the following linked page.   These lists are generated automatically using the latest information in the IEEE Membership Database.   There are separate lists for each of the organizational units within the Section (Section, Chapter, Student Branch, or Affiliate Group) or for Chapters which are joint with one or more neibouring Sections.   The initial use of any of these lists uses the full membership of the Section, Chapter, Student Branch, or Affiliate Group.   Members always have the option to opt out of receiving these messages by unsubscribing.

Section Wide Mailings
Normally only one mailing per month is sent - usually to be received at the beginning of the month with information on upcoming meetings scheduled for that month.   Occasionally, an additional mailing is sent.

Chapter and Affinity Group Mailings
The intent is that these mailings are to be sent sparingly and as a supplement to our regular monthly Section wide IEEE Toronto E-News mailing.   The Section is required by IEEE to send notices of upcoming Chapter meetings to all members of the Section - the intent of these Chapter/Affinity Group mailings is as follow-ups or reminders or to provide additional information or changes.

Non-Member Mailings
The normal monthly mailing to all Section members is also sent to non-Section members (those who are not members of IEEE and those who are members of other IEEE Sections) who elect to subscribe using the web form on the Section web site news page.

Content
These email messages are soley to provide information to IEEE members about IEEE or related activities that are of a technical, educational, or professional nature.   They may not be used for IEEE or other election campaigning.   The IEEE Electronic mail policy is presented on the following linked page.

Responding to Questions
The Section Chair, Secretary, Webmaster, Newsletter Editor, Chapter and Affinity Group Chairs, and other members of the Section Executive, have individual mailto's on this web site so that members and others may conveniently contact them with questions, suggestions, or comments - specific to those offices within the IEEE Toronto Section.   Please understand that these Toronto-based IEEE volunteers have, in general, a limited knowledge of the worldwide operations of the IEEE with its diversity of activities in many countries and technical specialities, and the corresponding range of IEEE products and services. Please use the following links to the worldwide IEEE web site and the national IEEE Canada web site to find mailto's for IEEE volunteers and Staff that can help you directly.   If you have questions about your membership or membership services or benefits, please use the links provided on our membership page.   As IEEE volunteers in the Toronto Section, we are able respond to questions about specific activities that we have arranged.   We are not able to respond to questions that go beyond our own technical, educational, or professional activities at the IEEE Section and Chapter level.
