IEEE Toronto Section Executive Committee Biographies
The operation of the IEEE Toronto Section is managed by the Section Executive committee, whose members are elected or appointed every two years. On each of these pages, we introduce a member of the committee who volunteers his or her time and energy to deliver the services that the IEEE Toronto Section provides. On your behalf, we recognize their invaluable contributions.

Bala Venkatesh, SM IEEE - Power and Energy Chapter Vice Chair

Dr. Bala Venkatesh is both founding Academic Director for the Centre for Urban Energy (CUE) and an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University. With a Ph.D. from Anna University (India), Dr. Venkatesh is a registered professional engineer in New Brunswick and Ontario. Dr. Venkatesh has also taught at the University of New Brunswick, Multimedia University (Malaysia), and Anna University (India) since 1994. Dr. Venkatesh has extensive journal publications to his credit and has supervised about 40 MASc and PhD theses. Dr. Venkatesh's CUE endeavours build on previous research in the energy field including those on Reactive Power Market (funded by NSERC), Wind Energy Economics (funded by NSERC), Distribution Systems Analysis (funded by the New Brunswick Innovation Fund), etc. In total, his extramural funding is in several million dollars. In the last two decades, he has worked on over 10 consulting projects in India and Canada.
