IEEE Toronto Section Executive Committee Biographies
The operation of the IEEE Toronto Section is managed by the Section Executive committee, whose members are elected or appointed every two years. On each of these pages, we introduce a member of the committee who volunteers his or her time and energy to deliver the services that the IEEE Toronto Section provides. On your behalf, we recognize their invaluable contributions.

Behnaz Ghoraani - Past Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group Chair, Past Signal Processing Chapter Vice Chair

Behnaz Ghoraani completed a PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University in 2010. She holds a MSc degree and a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sharif and AmirKabir University of Technology, which she received in 1998 and 1994 respectively. Her achievements as a student are recognized through prestigious scholarships and awards, including the OGSST in 2008 and 2009, the Graduate Research Excellence and Best TA awards in 2009; and the IEEE Toronto Section Outstanding New Leader Award, also in 2009. Dr. Ghoraani has co-authored several peer-reviewed journal papers, conferences papers, and one book chapter.

She has also been active in professional activities, serving as coordinator of IEEE Canada Women in Engineering, chair of IEEE Toronto WIE, and vice chair of IEEE Toronto Signal Processing Section, in addition to serving as program committee member and technical program coordinator for several IEEE conferences including the ICME 2006, CCECE 2008, and TIC-STH 2009. Dr. Ghoraani has had extensive experience as an engineer working in the field, a teacher, and a researcher. Currently, she shares her time between Ryerson University and the University of Toronto, working as a Research Associate; she is developing signal and image processing techniques to improve the quality of the treatments in patients with heart problems. Her research interests center on time-frequency feature analysis with an emphasis on Multimedia and Biomedical Engineering.
