Title: Is your Stock Portfolio Ready for Telecommunications OSS?
Speaker:
Mr. Robert Bratulic, P.Eng
Director, Marketing & Product Management
Sigma Systems Group
Abstract:
Did you miss out on the e-commerce and wireless internet stock market crazes? Not to worry, as you'll shortly have another chance at the hi-tech jackpot.
OSS, or Operations Support Systems, are the large multi-million dollar software behemoths that run daily operations at telecommunications service providers. When a local or long-distance call is made, anytime or anywhere, an OSS will know the number and location of the caller, which equipment to route the call through across the city or across the country, how much it costs to make the call, who will pay for it and whether their account is delinquent, what the calling patterns of the subscriber are and even whether this might be a fraudulent use of the phone system. When you think of the volume of calls occurring at any given time and the 7x24 nature of the business, this puts OSS in the same league of complexity as airline reservation and traffic control systems. But being in a competitive telecommunications context, OSS has the hi-tech allure of mature dot-coms, with added gusto from related businesses like fiber optics, the Internet, broadband cable, and wireless coimmunications.
This is not a financial advice session. It IS an overview of a very exciting technology that will capture the market's imagination in a very short time. Join the ride while it's still early!
