| Abstract: This comprehensive and up-to-date presentation on the Ontario Electricity Market at the first anniversary of May 1 will review the fundamental structure of the electricity open market in Ontario and furnish a summary of the first year operations based on the two Market Surveillance Panel (MSP) reports. You will learn how the electricity market price is determined, how the competitiveness works in the market and the future evolution of the market. | Biography: Mr. Richard Penn, Manager of Market Assessment Unit at the IMO, is currently dealing with both market surveillance issues and assessment of the market operations in the open electricity market in Ontario. He has a joint reporting relationship both to the IMO and to the independent Market Surveillance Panel. He has given numerous presentations and training courses on the Ontario electricity market throughout Ontario. Prior to joining the IMO in 2001, Mr. Penn was the Director of Resource Management - Commercial Operations at Ontario Power Generation (OPG) handling both the integrated commercial operation of OPG's hydroelectric, fossil and nuclear portfolios since 1999. He joined the old Ontario Hydro in 1980 working in the field of Water Resources working on all the major watersheds in the Province of Ontario. Mr. Penn received a B.Sc. (Hons) in Geology in 1976, and a B.Sc. Eng. in Water Resources Engineering in 1979 both from the University of Guelph. |
