| Description
|
Hydro One’s Operating Centre in Barrie is the central nervous system for
Hydro One’s Transmission and Distribution system. From this one
centralized location the team operates Ontario’s electricity grid. Staff
at the centre remotely control more than 350 stations serving over a
million connected customers.
The men and women working in this centre control the system, respond to
alarms, communicate with the field and head office, log activity, and
generate reports. They also consider public and worker safety, the
environment, customer needs, and available power resources. They
prioritize and coordinate work activities of Hydro One crews and
customers. Dispatch works directly with the Call Centre to respond
customer no-power calls and dispatch crews to stations and sites across
the province as needed.
Hydro One’s Network Operating Centre is a state-of-the-art facility,
helping Hydro One remain as an industry leader and giving the Hydro One
team the best possible tools to work as safely, productively and
efficiently as possible.
Program:
1:30 - 2:30 Video outlines the building stages from ground breaking to completion and describes the control room functions by simulation. Presentation on the control center.
2:30 - 2:50 Visit the control room.
2:50 - 3:30 Presentation on the real-time transmission Network Management System (NMS) and the distribution Outage Report Management System (ORMS).
