| Abstract
|
Debilitative joint disease, primarily osteoarthritis of the hip and knee
joints, affects a large portion of our senior population as well as a
significant number of younger individuals. Current practice involving
implants made from metals, ceramics and polymers will be reviewed as
well as new research developments using tissue engineered implants in
which natural tissues are formed over biodegradable templates.
