| Abstract
|
The need for innovative medical devices is rapidly expanding. Innovators are involved in designing and producing new devices to deal with various medical problems. It makes great business sense to be involved in medical devices, and like any other business, the opportunities and challenges are manifold. Tom Burgmann of MedX Healthcare Corporation will talk about his experiences in setting up medical device enterprises based-on innovative technologies. He will share some of his experiences and will provide practical tips about creating medical devices business. This event will be in the format of a presentation followed by an informal discussion. Refreshments will be served.

Tom Burgmann, P.Eng., is the Chief Technology Officer with MedX Health Corp.
MedX Health is a public company which has Research, Development and Manufacturing facilities in Mississauga Ontario. The principle business is to develop medical instruments used in the therapeutic, aesthetics and dental markets.
Tom graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1980. Over the past 25 years he has worked for Xerox Research, Northern Telecom, Innova Technology, Dicon Systems and Detection Systems before founding IDEAssociates in 1995 and developing the business as President until it’s acquisition in 2001 by MedX Health.
Tom is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), a founder and past Executive Committee Member of the MIT/York Enterprise Forum, and is an MIT Educational Councilor.
