| Title: Optical Line Systems - Today's Issues
and Tomorrow's Evolution | |
| Speaker: Loren S. Berg Nortel Networks |
| Abstract: Optical DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexed) systems operating at 10Gbps and beyond will see continued deployment over the coming years. There will be constant market pressures to reduce the network costs while increasing the functionality of the network. These pressures will in turn push the capacity, reach and agility dimensions of the optical network resulting in new challenges for researchers and developers of optical technology. This presentation focuses on some of these challenges as well as discussing some of the newer technologies which are finding their way into commercial networks. | |
| Biography: Loren S. Berg received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Queen's University in Kingston in 1989 and 1991 respectively. After graduation he began working at Bell-Northern Research which eventually became Nortel Networks. Since joining he has been involved in the development of long haul optical systems and is currently a Senior Manager of hardware development for optical line systems. |
