| Abstract |
IEEE GOLD will be hosting a Panel with distinguished speakers from industry and academia who will speak about the state of green energy in Ontario and the world. In particular, we are interested in discussing topics such as state-of-the art of Green Technology in Ontario or Canada (wind, solar, water, etc), federal or provincial energy policy that affects investment or advancement of green technologies in Canada/Ontario, key players in industry, the current state of power generation, future plan as well as any other interesting topics that surround the subject of green energy. Anyone who is interested to learn more about this topic is welcome to attend.

Alan S. Fung
Dr. Alan S. Fung, P.Eng., an Associate Professor at Ryerson University,
oversees a vigorous research program on sustainable building integrated
energy systems/net-zero energy buildings. He has authored and co-authored
over 180 journal/conference publications, book chapter, technical reports
and workshop presentations with more than 100 HQPs. He cofounded and was the
manager of the Canadian Residential Energy End-Use Data and Analysis Centre
(CREEDAC) at Dalhousie University from 1995 to 2005. He is a member of the
NSERC Solar Buildings Research Network (SBRN) dedicated to achieving cost
effective net-zero energy buildings in Canada. He has recently undertaken
the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA)-Building Industry and
Land Development Association (BILD) Archetype Sustainable House Project for
the Ryerson-TRCA Partnership in R&D on sustainable energy and community
development. Dr. Fung is a key member of the Ampas-Ryerson SUI CMHC
Equilibrium Housing Competition winning project of Davenport Townhouse
development and the engineering faculty coordinator at Ryerson for Team
North, the 2009 US DOE Solar Decathlon competition team. Team North was
ranked 4th overall among 20 international finalists. Among many committees
Dr. Fung serves on, the most notable is the International Building
Performance Simulation Association of Canada (IBPSA-Canada) which aims to
promote building simulation education and research in Canada for sustainable
building design. Dr. Fung is also recipients of the Governor General’s Gold
Medal, CMHC Excellence in Education Award, Ryerson FEAS Research Excellence
Award. He was also named an "Earth Angel" by Toronto Star in April 2009.
