| Abstract
|
The web browser has increasingly become the prime target for computer
crime due to the the proliferation of complex web applications which handle higher valued financial and e-commerce transactions. While SSL typically protects the network communication of a session, many of the most severe security problems
reside in the user-interface and engine of the web browser. Phishing
attacks are a prime example of what is wrong with web browsers
today. It is often difficult or even impossible to distinguish fake
sites from legitimate ones. Fortunately many of the problems with
web browsers, in particular relating to the user interface, are now
understood. New initiatives by the web browser developers aim to
solve these problems thereby providing a much more secure and
trustworthy web experience. This talk will explore some of the
problems that have been identified and the proposed solutions..
