Abstract:
During the last years there has been an increase in the use of plastics and composites in several industrial applications, leading to increased risk of electromagnetic interference. The talk presents the most recent results concerning the EM perform- ances of advanced composite materials and coated or filled plastics, and the advances in techniques used to improve their shielding effectiveness. Industrial applications of such materials in the field of telecommuni- cation and PCBs will be presented. Issues related to the measurement of the shielding effectiveness of plastic and composite enclosures, to the bonding and to the numerical modeling will be discussed.
Biography:
Dr. Maria Sabrina Sarto was born in 1968. She received the Laurea Degree cum laude in Electrical Engineering in 1992 at University of Rome "La Sapienza" and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1997. Since 1998 has been Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Rome "La Sapienza"; she is the head of the EMC Laboratory of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Prof. Sarto is author of more than 70 technical and scientific papers published on International Journals and on the Proceedings of International Symposia, covering several EMC topics. In particular her research interests include susceptibility and radiated emission of transmission line networks, characterization, design and realization of shielding structures and materials, lightning interaction to aircraft, numerical modelling. She has been scientific coordinator of several projects supported by research centers and by national and international industries. Prof. Sarto has organized workshops and special sessions during international symposia, and has given numerous presentations. She has also been chaiperson of technical sessions. She is Senior member of IEEE since 2000 and Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE EMC Society since 2001. Prof. Sarto received the Best Paper Award of the 1993 IEEE Int. Symp. on EMC, Dallas (TX) and of the Int. Symp. EMC EUROPE 2000, Brugge; moreover she received from the IEEE EMC Society the Past President's Memorial Awards in 1996 and 1997, the 1997 and 2000 IEEE EMC Trans. Prize Paper Award. She is Associate Editor of the IEEE Trans. on EMC and of the EMCABS column of IEEE EMC Newsletter; she is member of the TC9 Committee on "numerical modeling in EMC", and of the IEEE STD 299 working group.
