Title: The Role of Technology in the De-regulated Electricity Market
Abstract:
The North American electricity market is undergoing massive and fundamental change, driven by powerful forces of deregulation, customer choice, competition and technology. While traditional supply and demand side technologies such as modular gas combustion turbines, power electronics and metering are making incremental impacts, it is the technologies of the new economy such as internet and telecommunication which are fueling the changes brought upon by customer choice and deregulation. The objectives of this talk are to examine the role of new technology in the electric power industry, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities for engineers and scientists in this exciting era. Various views presented at the recent Ontario Electricity Technology Forum and Industry Canada's Electricity Technology Roadmap Workshop will be discussed with respect to the introduction of competition in Ontario's electricity market and the de-merger of Ontario Hydro.
Speaker:
Dr. Frank Chu
Vice President, New Product Development
