IEEE Toronto Section Executive Committee Biographies
The operation of the IEEE Toronto Section is managed by the Section Executive committee, whose members are elected or appointed every two years. On each of these pages, we introduce a member of the committee who volunteers his or her time and energy to deliver the services that the IEEE Toronto Section provides. On your behalf, we recognize their invaluable contributions.

Karl Martin Ð Signals and Computational Intelligence Joint Chapter Chair

Karl received his B.A.Sc. (Engineering Science), M.A.Sc. (Electrical Engineering) and Ph.D. (Electrical Engineering) degrees from the University of Toronto in 2001, 2003, 2010 respectively. He is President and CEO of Bionym Inc., a Toronto-area startup specializing in novel biometric recognition systems, with a focus on privacy-protection and data security. He is also part-time CTO of another startup, Engineered Privacy Inc., which specializes in privacy-protective video systems. His research and professional interests are in biometrics, privacy enhancing technologies, and video and image processing, He has 29 refereed publications and one issued patent.

Karl was the Signal Processing Chapter Vice Chair from October 2003 to January 2011 (formerly known as the Signal and Applications Joint Chapter until August 2005). He became the Signals and Computational Intelligence Joint Chapter Chair in July 2011. Karl was also the section webmaster from October 2006 until October 2009.

In his spare time, Karl is an avid photographer and cyclist.
