Abstract

Review of nature of arcing ground faults in electrical distribution systems and fire hazard. Various methods of System Grounding in Low and Medium Voltage systems and their characteristics, Considerations of protection against arcing ground faults, Arc flash hazard due to electrical work, code requirements in CEC, NEC, NFPA and OSHA, for equipment and work place safety.

Biography

Ajit Bapat, Vice President,Technology for IPC Resistors Inc. in Canada, is well known in the electrical distribution field having served over 35 years in the industry. His expertise in the art and science of ground fault protection is acknowledged in North America. He holds Master's Degrees in Business Administration and Electrical Engineering specializing in Power Systems and Power System Protection and has particular interest in ground fault protection, digital metering systems, microprocessor based integrated systems for protection metering monitoring and control of power distribution systems. He is a member of IEEE and Industry Application Society and has been Chair of Two IAS Annual Conferences held in Toronto. He has also served as Chair of the Toronto section and the Central Canada Council.
