| Abstract

This presentation will address the unique principles, disciplines and approaches required to take charge of troubled or runaway projects, bring them back under control and steer them towards successful completion. It will highlight the need for recognizing the symptoms of troubled projects, and developing the right project management skills, styles and tools required to achieve a successful project turnaround. The presentation is based on the Speakers’ upcoming book titled, “From Ratholes to Rainbows: Project Recovery, Salvaging & Turnaround” that describes a comprehensive recovery methodology known as "AIM" along with its A10(C) processes.

Dhanu Kothari
Dhanu Kothari is the President of D2i Consulting (www.D2i.ca), a firm specializing in Project Management delivery and consulting including Methodology, Process, PMOs, Projects Audits, Skills development & Training. He has 30 years of experience in IT with major organizations including HP, DEC, Honeywell, Nortel, Scotia Bank, Univac and the Norwegian Computing Center. Dhanu has conducted several workshops/webinars on various aspects of Project Management and participated as a Guest Speaker for associations such as the PMI-ISSIG, PMI Chapters, Greater Toronto ISLIG, Lakeshore Chapter, CIPS-ISSIG and other industry and professional associations. Dhanu holds a B.Sc. in Mech. Eng., and a Post-Graduate in Production Eng., from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. He has authored a book on PM titled “Rainbows & Ratholes: Best Practices for Managing Successful Projects” Dhanu is a past President of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Southern Ontario Chapter, Canada.
Romeo Mitchell
Romeo Mitchell is a senior Program Manager with Hewlett-Packard (Canada) with over 15+ years experience in Project Management. He has successfully delivered complex projects in distributed computing environments with multiple solution providers. His experience spans several industries including Telecom, Manufacturing, Banking and Retail Sectors with particular focus on project recovery and turnaround. Romeo received his PMP certification in 1994 and he is a Past President of the PMI Southern Ontario Chapter. He is also a part-time senior instructor at Humber College Institute of Technology, Project Management Center. He has published several papers and presented in both national and international seminars. Romeo holds a M.Sc. degree in Project Management from Brunel University/ Henley Mgt. College, U.K.; Graduate Cert. in Operations Mgt. and Operations Research from the Industrial Society of Great Britain, and a B.Sc. in Quantity Surveying (Cost Eng.) from the Univ. of Westminster, U.K.
