| Summary: Patents and other forms of intellectual property can affect whether or how an engineers project will proceed. Patents and other forms of intellectual property can also affect the competitiveness of an engineers company. Every engineer (whether project engineer, project manager, upper management, employee or consultant) should know how and why. This talk will discuss what patents are, why they are so important and why they can be useful. The talk will also offer guidance as to when and how patent issues can or should be considered and what types of subject matter can be patented. Other forms of intellectual property will be discussed. Hands-on examples will be featured. Frank Farfan is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Intellectual Property (Patent, Trade-Mark & Copyright) Law. He has been a Partner of MacBeth & Johnson since 1987 and has been associated with the related patent and trade-mark agency firm Dennison Associates since 1985. His experience covers the full range of intellectual property services from litigation to licensing to agency work in trade-marks and in patents in the mechanical, electronic, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and other technical fields. | |
