| Abstract |
The More Electric Aircraft (MEA) is based on the concept of utilizing electrical power for
driving aircraft subsystems currently powered by hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical means
including utility and flight control actuation, environmental control system, lubrication and fuel
pumps, and numerous other utility functions. In this seminar Dr. Kojori presents an overview of
More Electric Aircraft, discusses related challenges and potential opportunities and highlights
the importance of power electronics and various specialized magnetic components. These
advanced technologies enable the more electric aircraft and significantly reduce the size, weight
and life-cycle-cost of the overall system, improve reliability and result in ease of manufacturing
and maintenance and are applicable not only in aerospace but also have wide applications in
general industry.

| Biography |
Dr. Kojori has over 28 years experience in the fields of motor drives, power conversion, power
distribution, energy optimization and related advanced systems control. Currently as a Senior
Principal Engineer with Honeywell, he is the Conversion Portfolio Leader for Aero Advanced
Technologies responsible for research, development and technology demonstration of advanced
Electric Power Systems for More Electric Aircraft. Hassan joined Honeywell in 1997. Prior to that,
he was with Inverpower Controls Ltd. in Burlington, Ontario for three years and before that with the
University of Toronto’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His original work on
numerous technology firsts has resulted in over 40 patent disclosures submitted (20 awarded and
remaining pending) and more than 50 papers and proprietary industry reports. Dr. Kojori is a Senior
Member of IEEE, a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada and an
Adjunct professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the of Toronto and
Ryerson University. He is actively engaged in collaborative research in the general area of energy
optimized controlled systems and teaching and supervising graduate students with several leading
local and international universities.
